- Alamo Caregiver Empowerment
Does someone rely on you for care?
If they do, you may be a Caregiver
Do you help a senior with:
- Personal care?
- Shopping?
- Going to doctor's appointments?
- Managing money or bills?
- Other problems or questions they have?
Caring for a relative or friend may be something you never expected to do.
Regardless of your age, you are a Caregiver if you provide routine assistance to a loved one 60 years of age or older who is frail, disabled, or has a chronic illness.
There are 48 million unpaid caregivers of adults ages 65 and older in the United States.

What are some things I need to know as a Caregiver?
- You are not alone. Seek the support of other Caregivers and/or professionals.
- It is okay to ask for help. You can’t do everything yourself.
- Make sure legal and financial matters are in order.
- Keep in communication with your loved one’s medical care team.
- Make sure you are taking care of your own needs (physical, emotional, social).
- Respite care is when someone else cares for your loved one so you can take a break - use it when you can.
